12-12-12

It was pretty cool that it was twelve twelve twelve but the really cool thing was that December twelfth is my...
Birthday!

It was very fun to have twelve-twelve-twelve be my birthday but I had a really great time because of lots of things but, mostly because I got:

Twelve yellow roses, twelve friends, and twelve quotes.(Twelve-twelve-twelve)

All throughout the day I got roses with quotes attached to them from twelve different friends. I did not know about this scheme till lunch time when I had lunch with my mom. I got got most of my flowers in the morning before school and right as second period was about to start. The roses were yellow and yellow is my FAVORITE color. (Apparently it is also the color of friendship) Once I got 3 flowers I knew that something was up because all of the roses had tags that was Stampin' Up product-my mom is a independent demonstrator for Stampin' Up-I love quotes and all the flowers have quotes on them, and I love the color yellow(as mentioned above.) and the roses were yellow. I knew that my mother was scheming. I kept getting flowers through out the day but when I was riding home I only had ten flowers. I got home and asked my mom and she wasn't sure who they were. I then told her the one's I got and she remembered who the other ones were. She wouldn't tell me and I thought my cousin-who is four days older than me-was coming up. She wasn't. I had some friends over for cupcakes and then my last two flowers came. They were two of my very good friends who were over at the high school. I They drove over and gave me the flowers. It was such a fun day! I loved all the quotes that people chose and I will share them with you in the order that I got them!

1. "What would life be if we had no courage to attempt anything?- Vincent van Gogh" from Ashley
2. "It is only with the heart that one can see rightly. What is essential is invisible to the eye. -The Little Prince" from Sophie
3. "Getting old is mandatory, but growing up is optional." from Lorili
4. "Remember to always smile and the world will be a much better place." from Emma
5. "Things are not the way you think they are, BUT the way you think, they are." from Jessica
6. "Live life your way(with fry sauce)" from Brea (the fry sauce is an inside joke)
7. "Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times, when only one remembers to turn on the light.-Albus Dumbledore" from Allison
8. "Art? You just do it.-" from Rachel
9. "Whatever you do, do with kindness. Whatever you say, say with kindness. Wherever you go, radiate kindness." from Delaney
10. "Today is the oldest you've ever been, and the youngest you'll ever be again." from Sonja
11. "Be so happy that when others see you, they become Happy too." from Jessie
12. "A single rose can be my garden..a single friends my world." from Brianna

Here is a picture of my flowers and some happy birthday wrapping paper!

My birthday flowers! The little tags are
what hold the quotes.

Well I hope you enjoyed this and you were creatively inspired!

See ya!

PS! Thanks to all my friends who gave me flowers, who wished me a happy birthday, who sang to me gave me a present, or even a hug! It helped make my day! Especially a huge thanks to my mom! It was a great day!!!

Here comes a Winter Wonderland!

It's now December! Here comes the snow, the joy, the laughter, the warm clothes, and family time! Also with December comes lot's of birthdays, hot coco, and for me, lot's of request's for my clay creations! I started creating figures for my grandma's birthday. I made her a little nativity. I have been made many different nativities since then and I have started to make some ornaments! I have made ornaments that aren't really the true reason of the season. I have made elves, Santas, and I have even made a Mrs. Clause!

After I was in a boutique in October I got two orders for some elf ornaments. They asked for both boys and girls. I have never made boy elves before so this was a new experience! I had a very fun time with it and I loved it! Here is an image of the four elves I made. I really liked how it turned out!

The first time I ever used clay was at my friend Sophie's house. She had some of the no-bake clay and we spent many times playing with different creations over at her house.

Later we were thinking about a Birthday present for my grandma and my mom asked me to make my grandma a nativity because she loves them! I accepted the challenge and I produced a pretty cool thing and discovered a new talent! I really enjoy creating clay creations and I love it when my artwork makes someone smile! I am going to post a few more pictures of some of my other clay creations but not all of them. if you would like to see more go and look at my Art Gallery. I just started posting pictures so there isn't too many artworks up yet but there will be more soon!

A Short Time Ago In A Galaxy Not So Far Away...

I wanted to be a clone trooper for Halloween. I came up with this idea with a few of my friends while we were at a trek reunion. We were talking and somehow we got on the topic of Halloween and Star Wars. We planed everything out and I was going to be a clone trooper. There was just one problem. A 'real' clone trooper outfit is super expensive and I sadly do not have that much money.  So I looked around and we decided to just wear a real helmet and a white suit or something close to that. But my family brought to my attention that white suits are hard to find (just like a 'real' clone trooper outfit.) so my mom-being the amazing woman that she is-started to help me make a real enough clone trooper outfit.

We went to Michaels and got some white foam for the armor. We then went to Wal Mart to get black long johns, a white belt, and a clone trooper mask. And started to make my costume!
Supplies you will need
The supplies that you will need for this costume:
  • 1 Clone Trooper Mask (Wal Mart should have it if not, look online)
  • 1 Pair of Black Gloves (Wal Mart)
  • 1 White Belt (Also at Wal Mart if you want cheap)
  • 1 Pair of White Shoes (Can pretty much find these any where)
  • About 8 or 9 sheets of white foam-depending on your hight(got these at Michaels)
  • And a Nerf Star Wars Clone Trooper Gun to top it off.
You will also need someone to help you with this! My mom helped me out and it looked great! We placed the foam on my arms, legs, back, knees, etc. and traced out the shapes we needed(It helped to have an image of a clone trooper up on your computer or a clone trooper toy is very helpful!). To attach the white foam you can use super glue, or in my case I wanted to use my long johns for later so I used elastic and ribbons(so that the foam could come off).

With my costume I was super busy and didn't put much time in it but my mom helped a lot but we did it as a last minute costume so the foam kept ripping. It was really sad but, I did get a pretty cool costume (thanks mom!) it just didn't have all of the armor. Here is a picture of me in it with my little brother (he's a Jawa). I hope you all had a great Halloween!

Not So Rainy in Seattle

Last week I was able to go to Seattle, Washington to go to my Mom's cousin's wedding! It was a blast! The weather was supposed to be 50% chance of rain, but sadly it only sprinkled a few times and it rained hard(ish) when we were driving around. I was disappointed. But, besides that it was great!
We were there for four days and one quick morning. We drove the thirteen hour drive and was able to see beautiful sights! We had a great time being together and we got lots of rest!
Some trees that we saw on our drive up to seattle!
They were all grown in strait lines because they
were apart of a tree farm.

My mom's uncle and aunt live out on the Puget Sound so that it where we got to stay! They are amazing people that I have gotten to know and love! We had such a fun time helping out and learning more about my (mom's) cousin's husband. They are great people and I wish them the best!
Backside view of their house

While I was there I got to help put some of the flower bouquets together! I have always wondered what it was like to be a floralist and I got a little bit of a preview last weekend! When we started I was very overwhelmed. We had roses, purple flowers, green button like flowers(please forgive me for my lack of knowledge as of what the flowers names are!), some more white flowers and lot's of other stuff! In the end they all looked very beautiful!
Some of our bouquets!
While we were up there we went to Pikes Place! For those of you who don't know Pike's Place is a super fun market where people set up booths and sell all different kinds of nick-nacks. We saw belt buckles, giant gummy bears made out of little gummy bears, dead smelly fish with their eyes still on the fish(EW!), lot's of other cool stuff, and we even saw a bronze lady. She was human but she acted like a robot! It was one of the coolest things I've ever seen! She moved in the coolest way!

I had a great time up in Washington with lot's of family! Remember that sometimes, it doesn't rain hard in Seattle. See ya next time!

A Blogger's Start

Hello! I'm Allie Thorn and this is my blog, Paint, Pencils, and Paper! I will be posting about all things that have to do with the arts and crafts(so that might be things like photography, scrapbooking, music, painting, sculpting and anything else that is artsy!) that I see and actually do! I am looking forward to this blog because now I can do all of the fun crafty things that I see because it will be 'homework'! To get started I looked around a little bit at other craft blogs and I found three fun blogs with great ideas!

The first one is called Sugar Bee Crafts. It is a fun little website that has lot's of different ideas of how to show you different crafts. On Mondays she normally does give always, Tuesdays are Take-A-Look Tuesday(where she posts lot's of links to other sites), Wednesday is What I Wore Wednesday(fashion days), and Fridays and Saturdays are Contributor Posts. I think that it's a fun idea and I might do something like that but I will only be posting about once a week so I'll have to change it a little bit...

The next blog is All Stamped Up! This is my mom's blog and I really like it! It has lot's of fun crafts and ideas. I love the colors(red, white, and black) that she used on her blog because they were very simple but they are bold too. I like this blog because all the things that are posted on the front page are actually made by my mom! She has lot's of great projects on her blog and she will probably be helping me with what I will be doing!

The last blog I found was Dragonfly Designs. I really liked this blog because when I first open the website the first thing I saw was food. That grabbed my attention. I also like how she had those pull down menus and the website overall was pleasing to look at. I'm not sure if I can have pull down menus but as I mess around with this blog I might figure it out!

Well I think that is all! Sorry, no crafts on this blog yet! But remember to go check out the blogs I mentioned above. See ya soon!
